Laurie Ouellette is Professor of Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Minnesota. She is author and editor of seven books on television and media culture, including “Better Living Through Reality TV: Television and Post-Welfare Citizenship”, “Lifestyle TV”, and “Keywords for Media Studies”. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the academic journal "Television and New Media" as well as columnist for Film Quarterly.
What the media are trying to do is not to passivize citizens, but to activate them as fans. They are blurring boundaries between information and entertainment and politics.
